Tech beats A&M - 45-25

Sorry Misty!

When I'm a Big Girl...

Back in 2002, I saw Jan Silvious speak at a women's retreat in Dallas on her book, "Big Girls Don't Whine". At the time, I thought - this would be a great bible study. Two years later (2004), I still kept thinking about it, - I contacted all my "sisters" that I had meet through my Christian journey, and here we are 4 years later, starting our 5th book. It has been so amazing. We meet on the 3rd Saturday of every month and discuss the chapter of the book we're reading at the time. Each month a member of the group is the hostess. This is a very relaxed forum. If you didn't read the chapter, you are still welcome - it's about taking a day out of the month to regroup with your friends and discuss what's going on with your life. The books generate discussions that apply to all of our everyday lives as girls. Here is a list of the books we've read so far:

"Big Girls Don't Whine" by Jan Silvious
"God Chicks" by Holly Wagner
"Confident Woman" by Joyce Meyers
"What These Women Knew.." by Thelma Wells
Currently Reading :
"Captivating:Unveiling the Mystery of a Woman's Soul" by John and Stasi Eldredge
Our group as expanded over the years, thanks to Misty. Terry, Carla, and Misty were part of the very first group - since then Bobbette, Jessica, Kristine, Delane and Ruthie have joined us. It's awesome.
We met today at Terry's house in McKinney. She served a wonderful baked chicken salad croissant with a spinach salad. We had chocolate dipped strawberries and strawberry cake for dessert. Terry travels on business every week. She arrived back in Dallas late Friday, and woke up early on Saturday to shop and cook for us. She rocks !
We discussed Chapter 1. One of the questions the author asks is "when did you realize that you are no longer a "girl", but a "woman"? I think the consensus was that none of us felt old enough to be called a "woman". When we think of a "woman" - she's either a business executive - or a stately matronly elderly person.. we're not that. We're still "girls"... hopefully, we're just "BIG" girls now... or trying to be. As we were discussing, I was thinking - this is so fun - I hope we are still getting together like this 20 years from now - discussing how we still think we just "girls" at 60, will we be "women" at 80?

My New Doo!

BEFORE

AFTER

Ok.. I was hoping to post pictures of me when I lose more weight, but getting my haircut last night proved to be pretty "climatic". I've been struggling for several weeks on how to have my hair cut & colored - and made the mistake of not having a clear vision when I went to Jeannine, my hair dresser, last night. My hair was pretty over-processed, but I didn't want to go completely dark. According to Jeannine, the trend is to go darker. I told her I still wanted highlights, so we compromised with the "Lisa Rinna" look. I thought we were discussing color only, but apparently, she captured the "length" too. (Now if she could have just captured her body and lips, I might be ok with that!!! ) I didn't leave Jeannine feeling like a movie star like I usually do after a haircut. I got home and just couldn't get over how short. I wasn't expecting this much to get cut off. When I was getting ready for work this morning, I just couldn't adjust to it. I cried all the way to work. I had to call my friend, Yvette, just so I could calm myself down before going into the office. It's funny that I felt I lost a part of myself with my hair gone. What a big baby I was being!!! Anyway, I got to work early. I usually get in at 8:30am, usually the last one so it's like I'm making a grand entrance. We sit in an open low cube environment, and it's mostly guys, with 3 girls including me. A couple people noticed immediately and assured me that it's the best haircut EVER. That it looks classy not mousey. So, the tears have stopped. Now, I have something else to worry about.. like how my new Norma Kamali black long sleeve shirt says "Organic" on the front - and someone asked me if it said "Orgasm"... so as I was walking around the Plaza at lunch time - I noticed people looking at me - first I thought - it's my new classy doo, but no, they are trying to read my shirt to see if it says "Orgasm" ----- there goes my class!

The best corn-on-the-cob EVER!!!

This is Kate. She's the 16 month old daughter of my friend, Susan. Isn't she ADORABLE??? Poor baby! That corn must have really tasted good! She was sleepy, she couldn't keep her eyes open. Aren't they just the most precious closed eyes with those long eyelashes?

Hasselhoff'd

At work, if you leave your desk without locking up your PC, a picture like this could be your new background. Believe me, it is NOT pretty on a 22 in monitor. Actually, this is not one of the worse pictures. There is a picture of him naked with a dog in his lap. Check it out on google image.(EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!

So, CTRL - ALT - DELETE is your friend if you don't want to be 'hoff'd.

Anonymous Poem

NOT MAYA ANGELOU'S' BEST POEM (Apparently this came in to me as a poem from Maya Angelou - but I got "snoped" and apparently it's FALSE- but it's still a good poem)

http://www.snopes.com/language/literary/awoman.asp

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ... enough money within her control to move out and rent a place of her own, even if she never wants to or needs to...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ... something perfect to wear if the employer, or date of her dreams wants to see her in an hour...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE . a youth she's content to leave behind....

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE . a past juicy enough that she's looking forward to retelling it in her old age....
A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ... a set of screwdrivers, a cordless drill, and a black lace bra...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE .. one friend who always makes her laugh.. and one who lets her cry...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ... a good piece of furniture not previously owned by anyone else in her family...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE .. eight matching plates, wine glasses with stems, and a recipe for a meal that will make her guests feel honored...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE a feeling of control over her destiny..

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW... how to fall in love without losing herself..

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW... how to quit a job, break up with a lover, and confront a friend without ruining the friendship...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW... when to try harder... and WHEN TO WALK AWAY...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW... that she can't change the length of her calves, the width of her hips, or the nature of her parents..

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KN OW... that her childhood may not have been perfect...but it's over...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW... what she would and wouldn't do for love or more...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW.... how to live alone... even if she doesn't like it...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW.. . whom she can trust, whom she can't, and why she shouldn't take it personally...

VERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW... where to go... be it to her best friend's kitchen table.. or a charming Inn in the woods.... when her soul needs soothing...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW.. What she can and can't accomplish in a day... a month...and a year...

Cowboy Injury Update

So, when my dad called me at 10:30am Monday morning, I was surprised. I just saw him last night, and couldn't imagine what he had to say. I thought he was joking with me when he told me that Tony had broken his pinky and that he'd be out for 4 weeks. OMG!!! Seriously????!!!!! Seriously??? I got to break the news at the office with the guys. Of course, they didn't really hear me because it didn't make sense - but they all got online - and confirmed it immediately. Football season just got even more freaking scary than it always was. (Can't Jessie just kiss it and make it better???)

Not only is Tony hurt, but Matt McBride broke his foot. He's probably out all year. Sam Hurd is hurt, Felix Jones is hurt, Anthony Spencer out. WHAT IS HAPPENING TO MY 'Boys????

The highlight of this past football weekend is that the Redskins and the Giants got BEAT!

Workout Update

So, I'm doing pretty good. I am getting back on track with strength training, so my arms aren't killing me anymore. I worked out Friday night, Sunday afternoon, and tonight. I want to get to the point on the elliptical that I'm not marking milestones at every 5 minutes. I stay on it for 45 minutes, but gosh, even the last 2 minutes are hard. I think we are starting the "Biggest Loser" contest at work next week. I thought we were this week.. so we'll see.

It's Just Another Manic Monday

I wish it were still Sunday.....

Cows lose to Arizona Cardinals in OT

I was literally standing up the last 5 minutes of the game. OMG!!! Who's protecting our quarterback and our kicker??? That's all I want to know. I love my 'boys, but c'mon!!!!
The highlight of today was wearing my new Marion Barber shirt. I love it. My friend, Wendy, surprised me with it yesterday. It is apparent that this isn't going to be a flawless season for the Cowboys. They play St Louis next week.. St Louis UPSET the Redskins today.

Becoming More Than Just a Good Bible Study Girl
